SEQUATCHIE COUNTY, Tenn. — Tennessee Highway Patrol investigators say a crash we reported on previously that shut down Highway 111 on Cagle Mountain last week claimed the lives of two people and injured four others.
According to THP, the two-vehicle crash occurred just after 2 p.m. on June 19 along TN-8 on Cagle Mountain.
Investigators say a 2021 Ford Expedition traveling north crossed the center line and collided with a southbound 2017 Mack tractor-trailer.
Two occupants of the Ford — a 69-year-old woman and a 6-year-old child, both from Indiana — died as a result of the crash.
Three other occupants of the SUV, a 42-year-old woman and two children ages 6 and 9, were injured. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 56-year-old Tennessee man, was also injured.
Following the initial impact, the tractor-trailer left the roadway and struck a utility pole near the Cagle Mountain Trading Post. The collision damaged the pole and caused a power outage in the area while emergency crews worked the scene.
All six people involved in the crash either suffered injuries or died as a result of the collision.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that no charges are pending at this time.
