Friday morning, Grundy County Investigators partnered with the Department of Children’s Services on a child neglect investigation at a residence on Canyon Drive in Altamont. During the investigation, allegations were made that a child was being restrained to a bed using a restraint device.
While attempting to conduct the investigation, DCS caseworkers were confronted by a male outside the residence who was armed with a firearm and refused to allow them to continue their investigation. The male then returned inside the residence and locked the door with two children still inside.
Shortly, law enforcement arrived on scene. Anthony Wiseman exited the residence while still armed with a firearm. Wiseman ignored deputies’ lawful commands. A TASER was deployed and was only minimally effective, but it provided deputies with enough compliance to safely take him into custody using hands-on techniques. Wiseman was then disarmed. Two small children were safely removed from the residence.
Anthony Wiseman was charged with Resisting Arrest. The children’s father, Ernest Newbern of Florida, was arrested and charged with Child Neglect.
