A wildfire that started Sunday evening on Whitwell Moutain forced the evacuation of the nearby Bolt Farm Treehouse campground.

According to Marion County EMA Director Steve Lamb, the fire which began around English Cove Road remained uncontained as of 10:15pm CST on Sunday, November 19th, 2023.

Lamb said it is unknown how many acres have been affected and that multiple agencies were working to contain the fire, however the challenging terrain is making it difficult for fire crews.

Six departments were on the scene Sunday night including the Whitwell Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, West Valley Fire Department, Powell’s Crossroads Fire Department, and Jasper Highlands Fire Department, and Tennessee Forestry.

As of this writing, officials say no injuries have been reported and no local houses are currently in danger; however, the campground near the fire was evacuated out of caution while crews work to contain the fire.

They ask for people to please avoid the area and give room for fire crews to do there work.

Whitwell Police Department advises that homeowners nearby the wildfire to not hesitate and evacuate if they see the fire getting close to their property.

We will continue to follow this developing story.
