At 3:30 PM Monday, Haletown Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 3400 block of Highway 134 for an illegal fire that had spread into a several acre brush fire, threatening structures. Haletown requested the Jasper Fire Department for mutual aid assistance. Two crews began protecting the structures in danger while the other began extinguishing the fire.

Thanks to quick response and hard work by firefighters, the fire was contained before it could damage any of the nearby homes and quickly extinguished. Haletown Volunteer Fire Department and Jasper firefighters arrived quickly and fought this wind-fueled fire. The fire would’ve grown out of control and taken the mountainside if not for these brave men and women.

At 9:30 pm, Mullins Cove Fire Department responded to two brush fires in the 19000 block of River Canyon Rd. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fires, and no injuries were reported.

Due to the outstanding work of firefighters and the needed rain, all fires are either out or contained.
