South Pittsburg’s Loyd Park debuts additional ‘Pickleball’ courts

The South Pittsburg Parks & Recreation Department has announced the addition of two more pickleball courts at Loyd Park.

The two new courts bring the total number now to four.

Pickleball, a racket or paddle sport involving two or four players, similar to tennis was first played in Washington State in the USA in 1965 and has grown immensely in popularity across the nation and locally in recent years.

The game or sport is popular due to its simple rules, ease of play for beginners, and the fun and social aspects of the game, which can be easygoing but become quite competitive.

Loyd Park is located between 4th and 5th Streets and Contour Avenue. The pickleball courts are located at along the park’s border of Oak Avenue between Contour Avenue and 5th Street.
