Some members of Dunlap Fire and Police, Signal Mountain Fire Department, Jasper Highlands, Sequatchie County Rescue Squad, and the Chattanooga Fire Department are all working in the flood area of Tennessee. The ground area search operations are being conducted over a 10-hour day.

Lt. Jody Lockhart described the conditions as extremely hazardous, with debris built up approximately 24 feet high on thick river silt.

Their search area was right off I-26 in Unicoi County, in what local officials say is “ground zero” for that area.

Crew members traveled approximately 30 minutes to Johnson City and bought sleeping bags and cots at a local store. Planet Fitness in Johnson City provided members with a place to shower.
