Tuesday morning’s commute was busy, especially for those who travel I-24 Eastbound from Marion County into Chattanooga.
An early morning crash on I-24 East at mile marker 3 (just past the I-59 junction) caused several resulting pileups that left traffic bumper-to-bumper from the Wildwood exit back to Nickajack Lake in Marion County.
The Dade County Sheriff’s Office says the initial crash involved an overturned tractor trailer resulting in all lanes of the interstate being closed for a time.
GDOT 511 reported the crash around 5:22AM EST on Tuesday morning and the incident was cleared shortly after 8:00AM EST.
An additional crash on I-24 East at SR 299 also caused delays and closed the interstate. Cleanup on that project took until around 10:00AM EST.
Alternate routes were also a bit congested through the morning until the interstate was cleared.
