The Marion County Sheriff’s Department is warning the public of potential “brushing scams” that are occurring across the nation.
The scams found circulating in other states involves receiving unexpected gifts or letters with no sender information where the packages or letters often include a QR code that, when scanned, can grant access to your personal information from you electronic device or potentially hack your phone or whatever device used to scan the code.
Officials with the department remind residents to stay vigilant and spread the word about these types of scams with your friends, family, and neighbors to help keep everyone safe.
