Officials say the fire started on the side porch, possibly from a flue pipe for a wood stove. The two occupants were able to get out safely with their two dogs. A pet cat did not escape.

Access was limited due to the driveway and gate that limited fire crews, so a tanker shuttle was established using Fredonia VFD,  South End VFD and Dunlap Fire. Additional engine companies responded from Signal Mountain Fire & Rescue and Pikeville VFD to assist.

The home and contents are a total loss and the owners did not have insurance.

Sequatchie County Rescue provided traffic control and Sequatchie County Sheriff’s deputies asssisted the homeowners. Puckett EMS responded as well.

Dunlap Fire returned to service around 2:00 PM CST after the fire was under control.
