Overnight Lane Closures Begin Tonight on I-24 for Monteagle Rockfall Mitigation Project

Motorists traveling through Marion County should be prepared for overnight lane closures on Interstate 24 West going up Monteagle Mountain beginning tonight as work continues on the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s ongoing rockfall mitigation project there.

According to TDOT, crews will be working on I-24 West between mile markers 137 and 138 over the next two weeks as part of the project designed to improve safety along the corridor.

The overnight operations will include removing temporary traffic control devices, shifting traffic back into its normal travel pattern, and paving sections of the interstate.

To minimize impacts on daytime travel, all work is scheduled to take place during nighttime hours.

The first round of lane closures is scheduled for tonight, June 5, and Saturday night, June 6. Additional overnight closures may occur throughout the project as crews complete the remaining work.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the area, reduce speed in work zones, and be alert for workers and changing traffic patterns.

TDOT reminds motorists to check current road conditions before traveling and to allow extra time for delays during overnight hours.
