Additional students join lawsuit against University of the South over claims of black mold

Five additional current and former students have joined a lawsuit against the University of the South, claiming exposure to black mold in campus housing made them sick and disrupted their education, according to a story by WZTV in Nashville.

Attorneys with Just Well Law, PLLC, and Davis & Davis announced the update on Monday, saying the new plaintiffs allege their dorm rooms were contaminated with “dangerous black mold” that caused serious health issues.

The expanded filing builds on a September lawsuit in which seven students accused the university of ignoring complaints about suspected toxic mold in Johnson Hall. The initial suit claimed the university failed to address unsafe living conditions and allegedly blamed students for their illnesses.

Students have reported symptoms including nosebleeds, headaches, and fatigue, according to the complaint, and are seeking more than $35 million in damages.
