The Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a recent phone scam after multiple reports of suspicious calls from individuals falsely claiming to represent the sheriff’s office.
According to authorities, residents have reported receiving calls from scammers who allege that the recipient failed to appear for jury duty or has outstanding citations. The callers then attempt to obtain personal information or demand payment to resolve the alleged issue.
Sheriff’s officials emphasized that the calls are fraudulent and are not being made by the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials said the sheriff’s office does not contact individuals by phone to request payment information, banking details, or other sensitive personal information regarding jury duty obligations or citations.
Residents who receive such calls are urged not to provide any personal information, financial details, or payments to the caller. Authorities also recommend ending the call immediately and reporting the incident.
Anyone who receives a suspicious call or believes they may have been targeted by the scam is encouraged to contact the Sequatchie County Sheriff’s Office at 423-949-7750.
Officials remind the public to remain cautious of unsolicited phone calls demanding money or personal information and to verify any claims directly with the appropriate agency before taking action.
