Marion County Among Areas Seeking Poll Workers for Upcoming Elections

JASPER, Tenn. — Marion County election officials are looking for additional poll workers to help staff voting locations during Tennessee’s upcoming election cycle, including the August primary, November general election, and early voting periods.

According to the Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office, Marion County is one of four counties in the region currently in need of election workers. Bledsoe, Meigs and McMinn counties are also seeking volunteers to assist with Election Day operations.

Poll workers play a key role in helping voters check in, operate voting equipment and ensure elections run smoothly and efficiently.

Those who serve can earn a stipend ranging from $135 to $175 for Election Day duties, along with an additional $20 for completing required training.

To qualify, individuals must be able to read and write English and be at least 16 years old. Anyone 18 or older must be a registered voter. Candidates appearing on the ballot, as well as their immediate relatives, are not eligible to serve as poll workers.

Many government employees are also eligible, including city, county and state employees, along with certain federal employees, subject to workplace approval requirements.

State election officials say poll workers are critical to maintaining accurate, secure and transparent elections while helping voters have a positive experience at the polls.

Residents interested in serving in Marion County can contact the Marion County Election Commission at 423-942-2108. Additional information about becoming a poll worker is available through Tennessee’s poll worker recruitment website.
